Week 6, Second Nine Weeks

I'm not sure where the time has gone, but next week is Thanksgiving!  Wow!

We are really looking forward to having Grandpals come visit the classroom on Friday!

Reading: The children are really enjoying Riding Freedom.  It is a wonderful historical fiction story and the children are having great conversations about the book.  Ask your child to tell you more about the main character, Charlotte.  We will have a vocabulary quiz on Thursday.  The students have a link to the StudyStack with the vocabulary words on it through Schoology.

Grammar: On Friday, the students will have a test on subject and predicate.  They will need to identify subjects and predicates, simple subjects and simple predicates, run-on sentences and fragments.  They will also need to be able to combine sentences to make compound subjects and predicates.  Students will also need to be able to "fix" run-on sentences.  There are some links on Schoology that will also help the students to prepare for this test.

Math: We are working on multiplying larger numbers and finding efficient strategies.  The students will even be working on multiplying 2-digit by 2-digit numbers.

Science: The students will be investigating potential and kinetic energy using rubber bands.  The students will also be evaluating friction on the vehicles.

Alabama History: We are studying the American Revolution and the Creek War.  The kids really love this School House Rock:
