This morning, the students read "In Flander's Field," a well-known poem reminding us to remember and show gratitude to veterans. The poem inspired the poppy to become the British symbol for veterans. Poppies are worn throughout the month of November in England and wreaths of poppies are placed at memorials and graves.
This year represents 100 years since the start of World War I. In honor of this significant milestone, Discovery Education planned a special live webcast from the Tower of London. Unfortunately, technology did not cooperate and we were not able to watch the webcast this morning. However, I believe it would be possible for you and your families to watch it together. I do not know how long the link will be good, but I found this 30 minute video well worth the watch - especially the views of the Tower of London clothed in thousands of ceramic poppies.
We also took time this morning to make cards to people who are currently serving in our armed forces.
I hope you and yours enjoy this day remembering those that have served and are serving our country.
