Week 5, Second Nine Weeks

Next Friday is Grandpal's Day!  Grandpals can be anyone from a grandparent, to an aunt or uncle, to a special friend to a neighbor.  Fourth grade Grandpals are invited to join the students at school from 10:30 - 11:15 to tour the school and learn more about what your child does at school.  Please let me know if your child will not have a Grandpal, and I'll do my best to find them one!

On Wednesday, your child will bring home his/her interim report.  Please carefully look over the information provided, discuss it with your child and return it to the school.

In the last couple of weeks, your child has learned about Schoology.  This will be a wonderful resource for your child.  Last week, they turned in an explorers project through Schoology and they are now using it to recommend books to one another.  If your child hasn't already shown you around Schoology, ask him/her for a quick tour!

Reading - We are continuing to read Riding Freedom in our small groups as well as work on eight vocabulary words the children chose from the first chapter.  There will be a quiz on those vocabulary words early next week, so your child could go ahead and start studying them on StudyStack.

Grammar - We will be working on what a run-on sentence is and how to turn them into good sentences.

Math - The students are working on prime and composite numbers as well as multiples and factors.  The students are learning strategies for solving multiplication problems.  Please help your child to study his/her multiplication facts each night.

Alabama History - We will be discussing the American Revolution this week as well as hosting a special guest speaker to tell us more about the Creek War.

Science - The students are testing the effect of mass added to a vehicle as well as different types of energy.
