Week 4, Second Nine Weeks

Reading - This week, we will be starting a new chapter book together.  Riding Freedom is a historical fiction novel set during the eighteenth century.  Students will be expanding their vocabulary with words from the text, examining how characters develop and focusing on having meaningful discussions in their groups.

Language - We will continue to work on subject and predicate this week as well as subject and verb agreement.

Math - This week students will begin proving their knowledge about multiplication facts.  Each morning they will have time to work on multiplication facts and when prepared, they will come to me to be "tested" on their skills.  Knowing these facts will be important for all the math that we will do this year, so please take some time to work on those multiplication facts.  We will also be working on factors, multiples, square numbers, prime, composite and multiplying larger numbers.

Alabama History - This week, the children are working on an assignment about a particular explorer of their choosing.  This project is to be completed on Schoology.  Most of the work should be done at home although we will take a little bit of class time on Tuesday to work on it as well.  There will also be a test on the explorers on Thursday.  This StudyStack should be helpful when studying.

Science - We are beginning our unit on forces and motion.  We will use K'nex pieces to design vehicles and will then test how design features affect motion and what forces have a role in moving the vehicle.
