Your child should have brought home his/her interim report today. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!
Reading - This week, our big focus is on theme. We will be reading stories this week and discussing the theme of the book by asking what the main character learned and what the author was trying to teach us. If you can incorporate theme discussions into your discussions at home about books your children are reading or perhaps even TV shows or movies, that would be great! We will also be talking about reading with appropriate tone when reading aloud. Vocabulary words this week: assist, favor, burglaries, suspect, innocent, misjudged, scheme, speculated, regretfully and prior. There will be a test on Friday covering theme and vocabulary.
Spelling - Long and short o
Math - Our multiplication focus is 11. We talked today that it is very easy to multiply 0-9 x 11, but after the 9s they get a little trickier, so focusing on 11 x 10, 11 x 11 and 11 x 12 would be great! We will continue working on number sense and place value this week with a test on Friday that will cover these topics as well as rounding, writing numbers in expanded and written form, and comparing numbers. We do not have much math homework this week, so take it as an opportunity to review rounding with your children!
Language - We are looking at common and proper nouns this week as well as capitalization rules. We will have a test next Monday on proper nouns and capitalization.
Alabama History - We are learning about the regions of our state as well as some cool facts about Alabama. We also have a special guest, our state senator, Paul DeMarco, is coming to speak to the children on Wednesday!
Science - We will be investigating what sorts of things make sound.
Have a great week! Thanks for your help and support!
