Week 3

I hope you enjoyed your long weekend!  We have lots to learn and do this week!
Reading - Our focus will be on the author's purpose for writing.  We will mainly be discussing three purposes: persuade, inform and entertain.
Vocabulary - I will try to list the vocabulary words on the blog each week because your child should be listening and looking out for these words.  On Friday, we will have a quiz on the vocabulary words.  This week's words come from the biography we will be reading about Martin Luther King, Jr. called My Brother, Martin.  The words are: injustice, numerous, segregation, nourishing, captured, dream, encounters, preferred, recall and example.
Spelling - Long and short e
Math - Our focus number for multiplication this week is 10.  We will continue to work on rounding, place value and number sense.
Language - The children will finish writing the biographies they have been working on as well as learning all about nouns.
Science - We will finish up our unit on light and begin investigating sound.
Alabama History - We will continue to learn about geography - especially map reading skills.
