Citizenship

Today we had our last character assembly of the year.  We talked about our character word of the month: citizenship.

Through our discussions we also talked about ways that classrooms throughout the school have given back to the community this year.  Our classroom made bookmarks for Urban Kids, emptied recycling bins on a weekly basis, worked with character partners to fight litter, participated in MLK Day of Service, painted bowls for Magic City Harvest, made blankets for Jesse's Place, donated money for cancer research through Relay for Life, and more!  Wow!

We also talked about great ideas for community service that the children can do on their own or with friends this summer.  Ask your child about some of the great ideas they heard like donating old clothes and books, having a lemonade stand or weeding an elderly neighbor's yard.

When we returned to our classrooms, classes and individual students had an opportunity to post to Today's Meet where we could all see their wonderful ideas.  Your child is welcome to post some more ideas about ways to be a good citizen: https://todaysmeet.com/citizenship.  Enjoy looking at some of the thoughtful ideas these Shades Cahaba kids have!
