Second Nine Weeks, Week 4

Wow, November is here already!  These next two months will begin to fly by with the holidays and fun activities plan in the classroom, at school and at home.  We are staying busy in the classroom, though and have lots to learn!

Reading: The students will be reading a short story about a mouse named Danny this week and working with partners to answer deep question about the story.  They will analyze the text and work to use evidence in the text to answer questions.  We will also begin our first class book study on the book Tiger Rising.  Students will be reading this book in the classroom, discussing it with their peers and as a class, we will choose vocabulary words from the text to study.

Language: Our focus will be on prepositions and prepositional phrases this week to help us improve our writing.

Math: The students are continuing to focus on multiplication, especially factors and multiples.  There will be a couple homeworks this week on factors and multiples.

Science: We are beginning our unit on forces and motion using Hotwheels cars and ramps.  Yes, Hotwheels.  (I know, at this point, you're all wishing you could come back to 4th grade!)

Alabama History: We will be learning about English and French explorers and hopefully looking into the French and Indian War as well.
