This is the last week of this first nine weeks! Wow! Where did the time go? Students should be working hard to reach their reading goals by the end of the nine weeks.
Reading: We are continuing to read Tiger Rising in small groups and discuss signposts and inferences throughout. We will also be discussing the last signpost: Aha Moment. This Friday, the students will have their first vocabulary test. They chose eight words from the first two chapters of Tiger Rising and we have been working with the words ever since. The students not only need to know the definitions, but they need to be able to use them in sentences. They can study the definitions with this Study Stack.
Language: Our focus is on identifying different types of verbs, spelling them correctly and being able to change the verb tense.
Math: Students will be doing lots of subtraction this week using a variety of different methods.
Alabama History: It is a big week for Alabama History! Projects are due on Friday, field trip to Moundville on Wednesday and beginning a new unit of the Explorers!
Science: We are finishing up our unit on sound early this week and will have our test on sound on Thursday. Students should review the notes in their notebooks and specifically know: what causes sound, what tension is, how tension affects pitch, the differences between high and low pitches, and ways to make an instrument make a higher or lower pitch. This website is a great one for reviewing this concepts. I also assigned a project today where the students will create their own instrument with a few requirements. They have two weeks to complete this project.
