We are into our second nine weeks of school. I'm looking forward to meeting with each of you this week to discuss your child's fourth grade year.
Reading: This week, the children will be setting three new reading goals, so please encourage them to be thinking about their new goals at home. (Is there a series they want to try; an author they have enjoyed; a genre they want to try; etc.) We will also be completing Tiger Rising this week.
Language: Verbs continue to be our focus. This week we will be focusing on linking verbs (or "to be" verbs) and making sure that we are spelling verbs correctly (like changing the "y" in worry to "i" before adding "ed").
Math: The children are continuing to work on subtraction this week as they find strategies that best suit certain situations. They are using some pretty cool strategies!
Alabama History: Today we started our discussion about explorers with Christopher Columbus, fittingly so on Columbus Day. The children were quite curious and became quite passionate throughout our discussion. Talk to your child about Christopher Columbus and see what they can tell you. Also, take a look at this video to learn more about who discovered America:
Science: After spending some time talking about sound, we are going to start investigating how we hear by learning more about the ear. Instruments are due next Monday and they need to be accompanied by some written work explaining how the instruments can change pitch and volume.
