Operation Shoebox

After well over a month of talking about it, planning and working to collect funds and supplies to fill shoeboxes, yesterday was the big day of stuffing the shoeboxes.  Students set up a sort of store in the classroom with art supplies, toiletries, small articles of clothing and lots of toys.  The students worked with their character partners to stuff boxes to the near point of bursting, knowing that these treasures would brighten the day of a child some where around the world.  

Thank you for all of your help and support!  We had a fantastic day and can't wait to track these packages and see where they end up!

Operation Shoebox: Shopping

Thanks to the incredible generosity of Mrs. Crimi's class and this fourth grade class, together with donations and orders for calendars, we raised $498.06 to go towards Operation Shoebox!  WOW!

Each shoebox costs $7 to ship, and each pair/trio of Character Partners will be packing one box, so that means we will be sending 20 boxes, which means, $140 goes to shipping.

That left $358.06 to spend on more things to put into the boxes (in addition to the many wonderful treasures students have already brought in!).  So, Mrs. Crimi and I went to Target tonight and thoroughly enjoyed shopping for more supplies to fill the shoeboxes.  The amazing thing was that after just tossing things in the cart, not keeping track at all of what we were spending, we spent  $356.16.  That's right, less than two dollars off of our total!  So, we'll add eight more quarters to the goat tube to make up that difference.

Can't wait to pack the boxes tomorrow!  I know these thoughtful kiddos will have fun stuffing the shoeboxes with all sorts of treasures!

Spelling Bee

Congratulations to our classroom spelling bee winner, Millie Kate, and our runner-up, Andrew! We know they will represent us well in the school-wide spelling bee in a few weeks! 

Thankful Turkeys

Each day this month, the children have been adding to their "Gratitude Journal" compiling a list of the so many things they are thankful for.  The children have been very thoughtful, insightful, caring and even humorous as they write their lists each day.

Yesterday, they put some of these items onto feathers of a turkey.
